ariety is overrated -- INCLUDED: tennis strategy flow chart

Today I'm following up on your comments with "Variety is overrated." The key to a winning tennis strategy is your ability to repeat it over and over. Rinse and repeat. Etc.  Variety in tennis is helpful if it augments your strategy but variety isn't a strategy by itself.

Tennis Strategy -- Shrinking the Court

Shrinking the court is a strategic adjustment you can make when your tennis game is a little bit off. It allows you to build confidence and raise the level of your play.  All tennis players have experienced the following: You aren't playing well and, as a result, you lose confidence in your shots.

Slow Motion Forehand: Fernando Verdasco

This is slow motion footage of Fernando Verdasco hitting forehands at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells. While his forehand is amazing, his haircut leaves something to be desired.

Tennis Lesson: Serve Step 8 - Follow Through

The follow through completes your service motion. From contact, follow through so that the racket points straight down at the court and get your back foot up so that all the weight is on your front foot. Bring the racket around to the other side of your body in a smooth and relaxed motion.

Tennis Lesson: Serve Step 1 - Stance

The first step of the serve focuses on how you position your body at the start of your motion. The stance is how you stand when you hit a serve. The stance is important because positioning yourself properly allows you to move correctly throughout your entire motion.

How to Handle a High Backhand

This video explains how to handle a high ball to your tennis backhand. We address both the one-handed and two-handed backhand in this video. The technique for handling a high ball, as you'll see in the video, isn't too different from a "normal" backhand.

Forehand Follow Through

The fourth thing that all high level tennis players do when hitting a forehand is to follow through smoothly. Extend out in the direction you are hitting the ball, and then wrap the racket up around your non-hitting arm's shoulder. You want to smoothly turn your wrist over, as if you were checking the time on a watch

Roger Federer's Forehand Grip

This video examines the grip that Roger Federer uses when he hits a forehand. Turns out that Federer uses an eastern forehand grip, which is the most conservative grip you can use when hitting a forehand.

How to Find a Tennis Grip

This video explains how to find a tennis grip. Grips are EXTREMELY important. They are the foundation for every single shot you hit in tennis. For each particular shot there is a range of grips you can use. Choosing a grip should not be taken lightly because how you hold the racket affects how you swing up to the tennis ball. This, in turn, affects the type of ball you hit and, consequently, it can influence your style of play.

The Serve: Introduction

This video introduces the serve. The series contains 8 instructional videos. The series breaks down each serve into its separate components. This is a highly recommended video. Must see!
